Welcome to Bondo Community Development Network

Bondo Community Development Network is a network of young Kenyans tracing their origin from Bondo constituency. The Network brings together a group of individuals who are committed to poverty eradication and environmental conservation.

BCDN employs bottom-up development approach. We initiate our projects from the village level to the constituency level.
Youths are in control of all BCDN’s projects from the villages to the constituency. At the village level we have youths coming together under Youth Community Developers who are nominated village youth leaders representing all genders. Each village in Bondo Constituency has 1 male and 1 female Youth Community Developers.

From the villages our work progresses to the sub-location level where youths are organized under Youth Ambassadors. We have 2 Youth Ambassadors: 1 male and 1 female per sub-location in Bondo Constituency.
At the constituency level we have a panel made up of professional advisors, Development Leaders and Youth Ambassadors. It is at this stage that we deliberate on youth ideas, community challenges, unexploited opportunities, practical solutions and design viable projects to respond to poverty and environmental challenges affecting Bondo Constituency.

Our work covers 25 sub-locations in Bondo Constituency:
Usenge, Got Agulu, Mahanga, Nyang’oma, Ndeda/Oyamo, Uyawi, Nyaguda, Got Abiero, East Migwena, West Migwena, Usigu, Got Ramogi, Bar-Kanyango, Nyamonye, Othach, Pala, Utonga, Kapiyo, Maranda, Usire, Nyawita, Bar-Kowino, Ajigo, Bar-Chando and Abom.

Bondo Community Development Network concentrates on Millennium Development Goal 1 and Millennium Development Goal 7.
Goal number 1 aims at eradicating extreme poverty and hunger while goal number 7 aims at ensuring environmental sustainability.
We run two core programmes: Environmental Conservation and Poverty Eradication under which our projects are designed with full participation of youths in Bondo Constituency.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Our work is supported by both local and international volunteers. We create opportunities for students and non-students willing to contribute positively in environmental conservation, poverty eradication and youth programs.

Children Programme:

We partner with Children Day Care Centres and Orphanages within our area of operation to enhance the welfare of vulnerable and orphan children.

Bondo constituency has continued to witness high rise in the number of orphans and vulnerable children. UN-HABITAT LAKE VICTORIA REGION WATER AND SANITATION PROGRAMME APPRAISAL REPORT BONDO TOWN July 2008, for example, reveals a worrying state of orphanhood in Bondo. In the age group of 5 – 9 years, 21.4% has lost already one or both parents. In the age group 10 – 14 years this figure reaches 31%! These figures were corroborated during this appraisal, when data were obtained on the number of orphans in primary schools in Bondo. These were in most cases more than 20% of all pupils.
A part from helping with administration work within the Day Care Centres and Orphanages we collaborate with our volunteers to introduce modern children programmes which are of great benefits to the local children compared to the existing programmes.
We do not only concentrate on vulnerable and orphan children but we consider the welfare of all children in our area of operation. We operate in poor communities where children miss a lot in their young lives as they grow into adulthood. Hence; we work closely with our volunteers to introduce child-friendly activities that ensure that the local children grow and mature into responsible community members.
Our children projects are of short term running from one week to few months and include organizing children day outs and family events.
